“Community-building
in schools, corporations, hospitals, or whatever does not come about just
from conversing about common interests and mutual problems but rather from
developing relationships based on trust, which is what it takes for a community
to be more than a social enclave. A second manifestation is the learning
that takes place. Learning here entails entering into moral and political
discourse with a historical understanding of the issues at-hand...and at
times, seeing the importance of community and social cohesiveness over
specific desires of the individual.” (Herda, Research Conversations
and Narrative, p. 86)

The
Ontario Community-University Partnership is comprised of representatives
of community-based organizations, schools, city agencies, private businesses,
and residents who work together to promote a livable community, healthy
lifestyles, and household economic self-sufficiency in low-income diverse
communities that comprise Ontario. Partnership members work together
on projects designed to encourage systemic and lasting change for the betterment
of the entire community. The Ontario Community-University Partnership
group currently works on three areas: health care, housing, and education.
