Lawyer, Anti-Defamation League Chairman

Tells of his first awareness of issue of affirmative action in course of his work as a lawyer and involvement of with Jewish organizations. He started his association with the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith in 1952 in the Southern California region. He served as National Chairman from 1978 to 1982. He also was appointed of Mayor Tom Bradley as a member of the Los Angeles Police Commission, serving from 1980 to 1984. The interview deals with affirmative action and the issue of the changing Relationship between Blacks and Jews.

Kroll, Clifford C.
Tech. Sergeant, U.S. Army Air Force, WWII
1996
Enlisted March 1942 in Army Air Force and trained as an aircraft mechanic. Assigned to 48th Troop Carrier Squadron, which boarded the troop ship WEST POINT for the trip to North Africa. Discusses airborne invasion of Sicily and the invasion of Normandy, at which time he was based out of Folkingham, England. Later his squadron moved to an airfield near Achiet, France, from which he participated in the last and largest airborne operation of WWII, Operation VARSITY (crossing the Rhine River at Wesel, Germany) on March 24, 1945.

Josephine Zeitlin reviews her coming from Kansas to California in the mid-1930s. Position with Haynes Foundation. In 1939 she and Jacob Zeitlin were married. Using money inherited from her mother's estate, with her husband's advice Mrs. Zeitlin established Ver Brugge Books. Raising a family and running a book business. Reflections on Carey McWilliams and the friendship of her husband with McWilliams. Locations of bookstores: 624 S. Carondelet and Red Barn. Husband's political interests during Cold War period. His stand against censorship. Jacob Zeitlin founded the Rounce and Coffin Club in Los Angeles and later joined the Zamorano Club.
